THOUGH PEOPLE in Indian sub-continent follow variety of different religions and Hinduism is regarded as the leading religion in this region. But today, the real India has a religion not heard by many, but followed by most India. Cricket is the biggest religion in India. This religion is quite phenomenal and has several gods who keep changing every few years or even months. Although, there is no holy book for this religion; people can remember the names and figures with ease.

India is considered as a poor country but still cricket, the rich man’s game, is the most popular. It is way ahead of other games and has overshadowed the national game ’Hockey’.

Cricket is a sport just like any other sport played by very few countries around the world. It resembles baseball in the way it is played. Each team has 11 players and the team that scores most runs in a day wins.

Indian cricket is not new, we adopted the idea of cricket from the British, who ruled over India for over two centuries. Even India’s Maharajas (Kings) used to play this game. Indians easily get emotional when it comes to cricket. Each game is watched with great intensity. When a match is won, the whole nation rejoices and when they lose, people just burst out with anger that many a times lead to premature end to the careers of some players.

Cricket, among the other sports, has also been lucky in terms of media attention. These days, media has become so powerful that it can make or mar a player’s career.
